“Spiders On Drugs”: The wood spider on LSD and other psychoactive drugs

By on June 1, 2015

If like us, you’re at all curious what happens when you give a common backyard Wood Spider very tiny little samples of psychoactive drugs like LSD, caffeine, marijuana, alcohol, etc., then, by all means, click on the link and you’ll learn what we discovered from this vintage clip.

What’s additionally interesting here is what happened after Andrew Struthers — a regular contributor to British Columbia’s The Tyee — uploaded this little film that he’d shot in his backyard, with an old Super 8mm camera he bought on eBay, spending no more than $300 on the entire project. He writes about it here.

It’s an interesting tale about what happens when a cable network like Comedy Central spies your little film at the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto, and then decides to give the youngfilmmaker a year-long Internet license for the exclusive rights to show it on their broadband channel, Motherload (and let’s just say that Struthers got caught in a whole nuther kind of web and leave it at that).
