Night Flight is thrilled to welcome Lawrence, Kansas Public TV series “Living Room” to Night Flight Plus! The series joins our growing collection of Public Access programming, including Glenn O’Brien’s TV Party, The Scott and Gary Show and of course, New Wave Theatre.

We asked producer and creator Joel Sanderson to share some background on the series:

Living Room is a nostalgic program that showcases unique musical performances from punk to folk genres. It incorporates VHS concert recordings, rare 16mm films, and other unusual visual media. It was originally broadcast on public access television in Lawrence, Kansas on Sunfower Cablevision.

The first season features a Wichita based band “The Embarrassment”, from the early 1980s, originally shot on broadcast tape in their rehearsal space dubbed “The Flatiron”. The second episode features avant-garde musician Eugene Chadbourne performing with banjo legend Tony Trischka. The third episode features southern rock and folk acoustic guitarist Matt Wood recorded in a Kansas City.

Rounding out the season, we couldn’t help but pull more material from The Embarrassment archive by showing their final reunion show from 2008. The first season is hosted by local Lawrence music journalist Anne Tangeman.
