“The Future is Here, Today” with Radio 1990

That’s right, back in the early 1980s the future of music was right around the corner, in 1990 that is.

It’s true, the beloved USA Network TV series Radio 1990 serves as a snapshot of futures past, and is preserved forever in the Night Flight archive.

Tonight we’re excited to bring back episodes of Radio 1990 from ’83 and ’84 featuring exclusive interviews with The Rolling Stones, Van Halen and John Cougar Mellancamp. Hosts Kathryn Kinley and Lisa Robinson are our guides, join us!

X: The Unheard Music

X: The Unheard Music takes long, detailed, and often funny look at the LA music scene of the late 70s and 80s and focuses on the group that critics had singled out as the leader of the underground pack.

The Unheard Music is a documentary that combines live footage of the band and interviews with the four members (as well as their friends and families) with surreal music videos and montages of newsreel footage and vintage television commercials which help to illustrate X’s uphill struggle against the music industry.

Lords of the New Church on Night Flight: A Closer Look

On the blog: In this episode of “New Sounds” — which originally aired on “Night Flight” on October 4, 1986 — announcer Pat Prescott introduces a video by the Lords of the New Church by saying “Ex-Damned lead guitarist Brian James and ex-Dead Boys lead vocalist Stiv Bators play ‘Russian Roulette,’ a personal and powerful statement on the arbitrary evil of war.”

Joysticks: It’s “snobs versus slobs” in this raunchy T&A-drenched ’80s teen sex comedy

On the blog this week, Night Flight contributor Mike Vanderbilt remembers the movie that “was part of the early ’80s arbitrary genre of Porkysploitation” and gives our LA friends a hot tip that the film will be screening TONIGHT — Friday, May 19th — at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA, on an ’80s Arcade Double Feature bill with another Night Flight fave, Pinball Summer.
