Meltasia 2017: “Night Flight Theater” joins the bacchanalian rock ‘n’ roll ‘n’ camping madness!

By on September 6, 2017

Hold up, summer’s not over just yet! This weekend — September 8th, 9th and 10th — Night Flight will be the joining the bacchanalian festivities at Meltasia — Stereogum recently claimed it will be “the weirdest festival of 2017” — and this year the rock ‘n’ roll ‘n’ camping madness will be held at the enchanting Blackthorne Resort in the majestic Catskill Mountains, located in East Durham, a three-hour’s drive north of New York City.

We’ll be on hand all weekend to present “Night Flight Theater,” featuring vintage episodes of our TV show — tons of b-movies, comedy, music videos and more — as aired during the Reagan era on USA Network.

We’ll tell below how you can get a discounted rate on subscriptions to Night Flight Plus!

Check out our Facebook event page and let us know if you’ll be making the scene!

Blackthorne Resort is located at 348 Sunside Rd., East Durham, NY 12423.

Attendees can camp out on the resort grounds (lodging and RV camping, w/ actual bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities), or bed down in one of the cool, cheap hotels in & around the Catskills.

Camping is free with ticket purchase, and early arrival is advised to find a good spot to set up.

Campers should be sure to bring all the necessary camping/festival gear (tents, sleeping bags, bug spray, comfy shoes, etc).

Randee of the Redwoods

This year, Meltasia Music Festival 2017 will be hosted by Danny Tamberelli & Mike Maronna (Pete and Pete of Nickelodeon’s cult classic TV series “The Adventures of Pete & Pete”) and former MTV regular Randee Of The Redwoods!

DAY THREE (Sunday, Sept. 10th, 1pm):

Groovy Movies
Harmonica Lewinski
Plus, secret late-night guests

NOTE: Originally Mungo Jerry (famed for their ’70s hit “In The Summertime“) were also supposed to play, but they’ve sadly dropped off the bill.

There’ll probably be some last-minute surprises too, you know how these things go…

In addition to all of the rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ and “Night Flight Theater” fun, attendees can also enjoy exclusive late-night after-parties (psychedelic imagery provided by Visuals By Bamiam), swimming pool parties at an “on-site swimming hole,” early morning Beach Boys Yoga, Massacre Mansion*, art, motorcycles, wiffle ball, ring toss, frisbeeing, ice cream and more!

*The promoters promise that Massacre Mansion is “a fully functional haunted house that includes a 3D clown maze,” and according to the poster, it’ll also have “goats!”

They also tell us there’ll be four full bars, food vendors (including Pippy’s Hot Dogs, but they’ve also promised vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options too), an onsite broadcast of “Live From The Barrage” and did we mention there’s going to be freakin’ GOATS??!!!

Attendees can also bring in their own food, but not their own alcohol, which will be available for purchase at the Blackthorne Resort (they have a Tiki Bar!).

You also cannot bring: outside-purchased alcohol, pets, fireworks, explosives and weapons of any kind. No unauthorized vending/soliciting will be allowed, and campers can build fires in designated areas only.

No “colors” (gang or club logos) should be worn, and all bags and persons are subject to search. Lastly, unless you’re bringing your mother along, you must clean up after yourselves. You’re all adults, after all.

Oh, and sorry, but Meltasia 2017 is an 18 & older festival, and will decidedly not be “kid-friendly,” as some attendees will likely be stripping down to skinny dip and what-not!

Check out Brooklyn Vegan’s photo gallery from 2016 — which was held in an abandoned zoo nearby — and you’ll get an idea what kind of semi-naked shenanigans you can expect to see this year!

Andy Animal

Meltasia burst forth from the fevered mind of the festival’s organizer Andy Animal — formerly of the Andy Animal Family Band and Cannibal Tribe — who threw his first party on his 31st birthday a few years back, renting an entire campground in Lafayette, Georgia, for himself, his friends, and 150 biker punks.

Andy Animal — you may have seen his Sensuous Yankee Candle YouTube clips, where he describes the way recently-acquired scented votives smell — had so much fun the first time he held a Meltasia that he opened up future Meltasia parties to the public at large.

Tickets are still available, as far as we know, and we’re thrilled to announce that Night Flight is offering $5 OFF for an annual subscription to Night Flight Plus, which means you can enjoy an incredible selection of streaming titles for just $34.99 this year!
