Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon talks the birth of video bands

Back in 1985, the music industry was adapting to a brand new broadcast format that had changed the way consumers were experiencing music a couple years earlier: Music Videos. Duran Duran was one of the earliest adopters of this new form of promotion and creative expression, and according to lead singer Simon Le Bon their early success is owed to embracing music videos. In this interview with Night Flight in 1985, in addition to discussing the role of video in the band’s success, Le Bon gives an exclusive origin story for the band, discussing his garish pants’ choices for the band’s first rehearsal.
