Mofulouga Winnie Hsin- Tsui Hark’s Green Snake soundtrack

When I moved to SF in the early 90s I discovered the Pagoda, a beautiful old movie theater that smelled faintly of urine and played Hong Kong double features. Instead of popcorn the concession stand sold dried squid and you could order take out from the little hole in the wall next door and they would bring it into the theater when it was ready. But the Pagoda was not really a movie theater: it was a metaphysical experience. After I discovered the Pagoda I started going at least once a week; it was my church. The first movie is saw there was Tsui Hark’s Green Snake. I don’t know if you can imagine seeing that film on the big screen and in that dark magical theater with the faintest odor of toilet playing under your nostrils, mixing with the smells of soy sauce and garlic from the hot noodles in your lap: but my mind was completely blown. The film’s soundtrack was surprisingly good and as it was forming the soundtrack to my transcendental flight into Hong Kong cinema I actually purchased the CD and occasionally gave it a listen at home.

ALTERNATIVECHICKBAND. I love how senseless this song is. I was once a little squirrel with a bike that liked to feed trees too.
